A 268-hp 3.5-liter 24-valve V6 engine powers the R350 4MATIC while the R320 BlueTEC gets power from a 210-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged DOHC 24-valve V6 engine. A seven-speed automatic transmission is standard. The R350 4MATIC delivers a fuel economy of 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on highways. 4MATIC 4-wheel drive is the standard drivetrain. The standard cargo capacity is 85 cubic feet.

Rain-sensing windshield wipers automatically adjust intermittent wiper frequency based on rainfall. A predictive occupant-protection system, PRE-SAFE, from Mercedes-Benz is a prominent safety feature. PRE-SAFE uses sensors from two of the active safety systems within the vehicle to detect vehicle movements that may indicate possibility of an accident. On detection, PRE-SAFE takes safety action to help protect the vehicle's occupants.
